There is something so beyond satisfying about swearing. In fact, science backs me up on this. A recent study even found that people who swear often are more honest. It can also help us deal with pain. Now that's some interesting sh*t.

But this post isn't really about my love of swearing. It's about having a personal motto that is going to stand the test of time, push you through the sh*tty times, and remind you of why you need to keep going. Once again, science backs me up on this. Having a personal motto has been shown to keep you inspired, motivated, and focused

I actually get asked every now and then, how to build up confidence or find it. The funny thing is that it doesn't appear or arrive, even when you deserve it and are worthy of it. Although those things are completely relative anyways. Some people say 'fake it until you make it' which never felt like apt advice to me.

The key to confidence and success, at least to little me, is not believing that you're worthy, capable, and prepared. It's about not caring. Because those that take the biggest risks and have the biggest successes jump in before they are 100% sure it's going to work out.

Who cares if you're ready for a challenge or the most qualified? The only way you're going to get closer to that place is to gain experience.

Which brings me back to my motto. It's like my own personal pre-game playlist. I respond to almost every negative thought in my head with those 3 little perfect words:

I don't think I'm ready to start a business. F*ck that sh*t, I'm doing it.

I don't think I'm the best candidate for the job. F*ck that sh*t, I'll show them.

Marketing and business is harder for men then women. Well, yep but f*ck that sh*t.

See? I feel energized just writing it.

Next time someone expresses apprehensions, fear, or doubt all I want to say in response is F*ck that sh*t!

Now if swearing isn't your thing, you can always try a variety of other confidence-building tools, find a Beyonce song as your anthem, or find your own motto. But feel free to use mine because so far it's been pretty effective.
